I morgen spiller bylarmklare Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo på Kvarteret etter Kvelertak. Der hvor mange band nøyer seg med musikk og høy energi søker dette unge bergensbandet etter å gjøre ting annerledes. Fra før av har de et samarbeid med den unge kunstneren og grafikeren Jacob Lysgaard; i tillegg til å ha samarbeidet med byrået Grandpeople. Nå tar bandprosjektet, som ledes av Njål Paulsberg, steget inn i den alternative motens verden. Derfor lanserer de nå et samarbeid med fransk-engelske Poupette Bulley. Den lovende klesdesigneren skal lage kostymer og unike klær til bandet, basert på sangenes tematikk. Bulley har nylig flyttet til Bergen etter å ha blitt uteeksaminert fra universitetet i Falmouth som klesdesigner.
Målet er å skape en visuell opplevelse og en annerledes konsert. Vi har tatt et par kjappe ord med Poupette om hennes bakgrunn og engasjement med Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo:
1 How would you describe your style as a fashion designer?
The most thrilling and terrifying aspect of the way I design is that I never know what I’m making until it’s almost done. Even though sometimes I can’t resist the fun of paper patterns and fresh fabric, I thrive on deconstructing second hand clothes and constructing garments out of them. It’s like doing puzzles all day long! This way the fabric dictates’ it’s own movement for the garment to make the most sense.
2 What background did you have before you decided to study fashion at Falmouth?
I studied at London College of Fashion for my foundation year but my biggest influence into fashion was my great aunt who worked in Paris Haute Couture. I also spent most of my teenage years on a film set with my father or as assisting Costume Designer to my sister.
3 What is it like to work with a band, and with music as a guideline for fashion?
Luckily we share a lot of ideals about making music or clothes so the understanding is there already, all I have had to do is start from any requests the musicians might have and build up from there. I always have music on when I work and it is inevitable that it influences my mood and creativity, PYHUFNT’s music is inspiration for my work so using it as direction in my designs is a natural process.
